Velvets legend dies from a liver related ailment, in his New York home



Velvet Underground frontman Lou Reed has died at the age of 71, reportedly from a “liver-related ailment”.

The musician, who more than played his part in changing popular music forever, died this morning (27 October 2013) at his home in Long Island, New York, having not been well “for a few months”, as reported by Associated Press.

The news of course saddens many if not all fans of alternative music, with VU bandmate and collaborator John Cale writing on his website, “The world has lost a fine songwriter and poet… I’ve lost my ‘school-yard buddy.'”

Julian Casablanca meanwhile tweeted: “Lou Reed is the reason i do everything i do”.
