Beware! This short album teaser for John Grant’s new record contains blood, in case that’s really not your thing

Former Czars front man John Grant has announced that his third solo album – following 2013’s breakthrough ‘Pale Green Ghosts’ – will be released later this year, on 2 October 2015 via Bella Union.

He’s posted news of the release today with this short, bloody teaser, that features a little of the record’s title track, ‘Grey Tickles, Black Pressure’.

Last year, Grant appeared on the cover of Loud And Quiet 58, where, as his home in Iceland, the American singer songwriter spoke candidly about his childhood, coming to terms with his sexuality as a gay man, addiction, contracting HIV and his newfound success. It remains one of the best cover features we’ve ever printed.

Of the new record Grant say:

“I do think the album’s great, and I’m really proud of it,” he says. “I wanted to get moodier and angrier on this record, but I probably had a lot more fun making it.” He cites “amazing” session keyboardist Bobby Sparks, “who really funked things up,” as part of that fun; likewise a month of Dallas sunshine “after a brutal dark winter in Iceland. And there was a lot of laughter.”
