Guest playlist from the NYC label who’ve released John Carpenter, Jenny Hval, Exploded View and loads of other brilliant stuff.

It’s good timing that we post this guest playlist from Sacred Bones. Next week (30 September) they release the confrontational, challenging, fascinating new album ‘Blood Bitch’ from Norwegian artist Jenny Hval. From the outside, it’s typical of the type of thing they put out. It’s original, left-field and broadly tends to push things forward. Much like their previous releases which have included everything from the legendary John Carpenter to Exploded View, David Lynch to Marching Church, Psychic Ills and Marissa Nadler.

The label, which started roughly 10 years ago, keep things simple when describing what they do.

“Sacred Bones is a NYC independent record label specializing in underground bands and avant-garde film makers.”

Here, they’ve put together a playlist of their current favourite tracks, plus a few other things thrown in. “A good snapshot,” they say, “of what is currently now playing over here at SBHQ.”

It is reliably excellent.

You can visit the Mates with Taste archive now – in the past we’ve has guest playlists in the series from Montreal’s Constellation, London’s Dirty Bingo, Margate’s PRAH, Bristol’s Rocket Recordings, Manchester’s Melodic, London’s Tough Love, California’s Burger Records and Sheffield’s Tye Die Tapes.
