We gave Max Kakacek and Julien Ehrlich £25 to spend in a London record store. Watch them shop and explain what they bought and why.

A little while back we launched a new video series: Bands Buy Records. Episode one featured New York’s Yeasayer. Number two saw Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie give us a schooling in rockabilly and 1960s rock and roll.

If you didn’t read about it at the time, here’s the full thinking behind the series. The short version is that from time to time we’re going to give a band £25 to spend on music. They’ve got to buy a minimum of three records which means it’s probably going to be a balancing act of bargain hunting, rarity finding and cash-splurging. Bands are NOT to spunk the full £25 on David Bowie’s ‘Blackstar’, nor are they to buy a 99p copy of Mr Blobby’s Christmas single, pocket the change and put our money to better use.

Now, we’re fans of Chicago band Whitney. During a recent visit to London, in between shows, we gave Max Kakacek and Julien Ehrlich some money to spend on records. They were great entertainment.

Whitney‘s debut album is out now, and thanks to our hosts Flashback Records, Shoreditch.
