Making Waves

< Tracks Of The Week
words by Team Loud And Quiet

The best new singles, demos, live tracks and MP3s we've come across in the past 7 days.

This week we're all about indie. Well... and one bit of electro, but that's from Brooklyn, which we're entitled to. Cold turkey was just too hard for our fragile minds.

Video Nasties
‘Albatross’
London five fiece Video Nasties may have been knocking around for what feels like more years than they've collectively been alive but they've not been twiddling wangs all this time, y'know. Their new 'Albatross' EP is the proof as the VNs return sounding ballsier than ever. And it suits them. This lead off track particularly stuns, combining hardcore thud-thrash-screams with an ending (and one off) chorus with a perfect almost baggy-pomp melody.

Kong
‘Leather Penny’
Kong, the big 'ol ape that went Elton-mental on NYC, still had a heart. He loved that girl he tormented so. Kong, the Manchester noise trio, are also with heart. Bags of heart actually. But judging by the frantically yelling, psycho killing 'Leather Penny' the bodies belonging to such organs have been long discarded... or probably eaten by these shit scary punks. We were just too scared to not put them on the list this week.

Tanlines
‘New Flowers’
Being "Southend til we die" (down in one anyone? Nope? Sorry) even (or especially) the chaps amongst us here know a thing or two about tan lines. They can be a right mare! The building tropical dance of Jesse Cohen and Eric Emm (the later of whom has produced Telepathe, Free Blood and !!!), on the other hand, are purely joyous. But maybe that's because the hypnotising 'New Flowers' has brain-scrubbed us to believe so.

Swanton Bombs
‘Shock’
Somewhere between The Strokes, Los Campesinos! and Good Shoes are the duo of Swanton Bombs and 'The Shock'. Showing off with a middle eight and everything, this lead track off of their new 'Mammoth Skull' EP has piano breaks, fuzzy slurs and straight up indie melodies to twist about to. BRAGGERS!

Titus Andronicus
‘Titus Andronicus Single’
Named after a Shakespearean tragedy, these five punks from New Jersey could be considered somewhat unimaginative. Not only have they pinched one of Billy's names for themselves, they've named also named their debut single after it. But, as bile-spitting mantra of "Your life is over!" is yelled our way, who are we to tell these ferocious punks otherwise.
