Boss
words by Laura Hughes
It’s not often you hear bands like this. Since opening for the mighty Sonic
Youth in 2004, Connecticut duo Magik Markers have been handed a megaphone in the shape of Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace! label. 'Boss' is the follow-up to last year’s 'Panegyric To The Things I Do Not Understand', exploding with feedback like a noisier Kills. Elisa Ambrogio is a tougher, disengaged Polly Harvey while a brief appearance from Lee Ranaldo packs a hefty punch to complete 9 songs worth of dirty, distorted genius.

Warning: this album is not as it appears. What it promises, and what it does, are two very different things.
Metronomy - Nights Out
Having lived with Metronomy’s (very) long awaited second album for the last four months, we have to admit that we’re a little red-faced.
Friendly Fires - Friendly Fires
From the Kajagoo Goo-baiting ‘In The Hospital’ to the opening Ibiza-paddling ‘Jump In The Pool’ Friendly Fires have proven to be both wise and worth the wait.

As ultra-hip Parisian label Kitsune continually prove with their ‘numbers’ compilations, they’re dance heads that rarely get it wrong.
