As Found
words by Laura Hughes

Sharing its name with a deadly variety of Japanese blowfish, Fugu is the brainchild of French multi-instrumentalist Mehdi Zannad. Like a post-modern Beach Boys with an extra helping of twee, his second full-length offering is ‘Pet Sounds’ for the digital age, with sickly-sweet harmonies sprinkled with beeps and synths. Combining simple melodies with complex structures, ‘As Found’ is proof that Parisian power-pop of yore is still alive and well, comfortably aiming for the lofty heights of Stereolab. Quietly, understatedly lovely.
