Window City
words by Laura Hughes
Although stylistically similar to 2004’s ‘Blueberry Boat’, ‘Widow City’ feels far more musically self-assured, with skilfully woven loops and instrumentation taking the place of disjointed guitar riffs. The Friedburger siblings pride themselves on creating sounds that transcend categories, creating chaotic yet structurally tight noises, as opener ‘Philadelphia Grand Jury’ proves, packing in dreamy Spector-ish strings, twee Belle and Sebastian-like piano melodies and sloping Beach Boys slide guitars. Definitely brilliant.

Let the face furniture of San Fran disco-er Mike Relm fool you. Forget that he’s named his second album after his eyewear.
Vivian Girls - Vivian Girls
One of Vivian Girls is called Kickball Katy. She plays bass even more nonchalantly than your average Valium-scoffing four-stringer.

They're saying that punk's dead, y'know? Spiritually, if not physically.
Wetdog - Enterprise Reversal
Had ‘Enterprise Reversal’ been a five track EP of a release its toneless blahs from lead shouter Rivka Gillieron would have still been a struggle to sit through.
