The Lost Pages
words by Mandy Drake
New Cross’s The Violets are inspired by all manner of stimulants, most of which are gloomy and surreal - from David Lynch to Minor Threat and Blade Runner - and most of which have found shards of themselves here on the band’s debut. It all culminates in ‘The Lost Pages’ - a would be classic underground art-punk album of 1977 era Berlin. In part, things almost get too industrial as ever-daunting frontwoman Alexis wails through the disjointed bonkers of ‘Descend’. But tracks like ‘Shade To Be’ and ‘Half Light’ are euphoric perfect pop.

Mike Relm - Spectacles
Let the face furniture of San Fran disco-er Mike Relm fool you. Forget that he’s named his second album after his eyewear.
Vivian Girls - Vivian Girls
One of Vivian Girls is called Kickball Katy. She plays bass even more nonchalantly than your average Valium-scoffing four-stringer.
Plastic Passion - Contrived Imagery
They're saying that punk's dead, y'know? Spiritually, if not physically.
Wetdog - Enterprise Reversal
Had ‘Enterprise Reversal’ been a five track EP of a release its toneless blahs from lead shouter Rivka Gillieron would have still been a struggle to sit through.
