Steak
words by Dean Driscoll
This soundtrack to Mr Oizo’s own movie (following Daft Punk’s ‘Electroma’) is made entirely of new compositions contributed by Oizo and cohorts Tellier and SebastiAn: twenty-one vignettes largely reminiscent of John Carpenter and Giorgio Moroder’s 80’s film scores. It’s all funky Moog-based fun, though with so many tracks coming in at the sub-2-minute mark you are left wishing the ideas were fleshed out into more fully-formed songs: when they are – as with Tellier’s brilliant ‘Hashis Vers’ – verging on brilliance.

Mike Relm - Spectacles
Let the face furniture of San Fran disco-er Mike Relm fool you. Forget that he’s named his second album after his eyewear.
Vivian Girls - Vivian Girls
One of Vivian Girls is called Kickball Katy. She plays bass even more nonchalantly than your average Valium-scoffing four-stringer.
Plastic Passion - Contrived Imagery
They're saying that punk's dead, y'know? Spiritually, if not physically.
Wetdog - Enterprise Reversal
Had ‘Enterprise Reversal’ been a five track EP of a release its toneless blahs from lead shouter Rivka Gillieron would have still been a struggle to sit through.
