All Hour Cymbals
words by Marcus Foley

If the very sight of the words ‘world’ and ‘music’ alongside each other sends chills running down your spine, look away now. If however, you are not a tight-jeaned, tousled-haired indie/new rave-gulping philistine, then Yeasayer’s debut could not have arrived at a better time. The Brooklynite’s knack with African roots music leaves Damon Albarn’s Malian mallarky in the shade, and their debut possesses more soul than anything else you’ll see mentioned on this page. It shouldn’t work, but it bloody well does. Sublime.

Mike Relm - Spectacles

Let the face furniture of San Fran disco-er Mike Relm fool you. Forget that he’s named his second album after his eyewear.

Vivian Girls

Vivian Girls - Vivian Girls

One of Vivian Girls is called Kickball Katy. She plays bass even more nonchalantly than your average Valium-scoffing four-stringer.

Plastic Passion - Contrived Imagery

They're saying that punk's dead, y'know? Spiritually, if not physically.

Wetdog - Enterprise Reversal

Had ‘Enterprise Reversal’ been a five track EP of a release its toneless blahs from lead shouter Rivka Gillieron would have still been a struggle to sit through.
