Youth Novels
words by Benson Burt
If you’ve seen Lykke Li perform her Swedish pop live you’re probably expecting her debut album to be all shoulder shrugging and rhythmic, bumping beats. And it is, just not to the extent that this sassy 22-year old projects on the live stage. More downbeat on record, the beautiful melodies and sweet lyrics of tracks like ‘Let It Fall’ are impossible to ignore, but it really is the likes of ‘I’m Good, I’m Gone’ and its cracking hand snaps that make ‘Youth Novels’ more memorable than your average clout of Scandinavian twee.
