Waiting Up Til It Was Light
words by Sam Walton
Depending on what you’ve heard, Johnny Foreigner are either the rightful heirs to the Pixies’ throne or a blander Idlewild, but don’t expect to be swayed one way or the other here – ‘Waited...’’s quality is so variable that there’s enough evidence to support either claim: ‘Eyes Wide Terrified’ features classic Black-Deal harmonies and guitar lines, then the very next song descends into trite pub-rock. Ultimately, while this debut is a decent stab at post-Song 2 guitar indie, it’s too one-dimensional and slapdash to ever be truly loveable. 5/10 in stores now

Let the face furniture of San Fran disco-er Mike Relm fool you. Forget that he’s named his second album after his eyewear.
Vivian Girls - Vivian Girls
One of Vivian Girls is called Kickball Katy. She plays bass even more nonchalantly than your average Valium-scoffing four-stringer.

They're saying that punk's dead, y'know? Spiritually, if not physically.
Wetdog - Enterprise Reversal
Had ‘Enterprise Reversal’ been a five track EP of a release its toneless blahs from lead shouter Rivka Gillieron would have still been a struggle to sit through.
