Outer Bongolia
words by Matt Warwick

What’s the uncoolest genre you can think of in existence right now? Black metal? Speed garage? No way… jazz funk. And, in the wrong place, at the wrong time comes ‘…Outer Bongolia’ – 14 crazy cuts of jazzed-up psychedelia, Hammond licks and funky drumming that would have the ‘cool people’ running for their reputations. Which just leaves more room for non-dickheads to ‘get down’ to songs like ‘Lucky Seven’ and, wait for it, ‘Bongo Mambo’ – both embarrassing and gloriously refreshing in equal measure. So if you’re a cool person and you’re reading this, then buy this record to save yourself from a lifetime of guestlist queuing and mirror pouting. If you don’t, then you will automatically be uncooler than jazz funk – making you an uncool genre. Fact.

Mike Relm - Spectacles

Let the face furniture of San Fran disco-er Mike Relm fool you. Forget that he’s named his second album after his eyewear.

Vivian Girls - Vivian Girls

One of Vivian Girls is called Kickball Katy. She plays bass even more nonchalantly than your average Valium-scoffing four-stringer.

They're saying that punk's dead, y'know? Spiritually, if not physically.

Wetdog - Enterprise Reversal

Had ‘Enterprise Reversal’ been a five track EP of a release its toneless blahs from lead shouter Rivka Gillieron would have still been a struggle to sit through.
