Mathematics
words by Sam Walton

‘Mathematics’ is another bedroom folktronica record with equally large debts to the ethereal end of Four Tet’s trademark beautiful-glitches. But just when you think you’ve heard it all before, Renfro add a disastrous point of difference in the form of a male singer who would be considered soulful on the X-Factor and schmaltzy and incredibly naff everywhere else. While the backing tracks of elegantly compiled clicks and buzzes hint at something interesting anything remotely listenable is ruined by the saccharine, witless vocals.

Mike Relm - Spectacles

Let the face furniture of San Fran disco-er Mike Relm fool you. Forget that he’s named his second album after his eyewear.

Vivian Girls - Vivian Girls

One of Vivian Girls is called Kickball Katy. She plays bass even more nonchalantly than your average Valium-scoffing four-stringer.

Wetdog - Enterprise Reversal

Had ‘Enterprise Reversal’ been a five track EP of a release its toneless blahs from lead shouter Rivka Gillieron would have still been a struggle to sit through.
