Elephant Shell
words by Marcus Foley
Crikey, where’d that album go? If you were as excited as us by TPC’s quick fire debut EP (the seven songs, sixteen minutes of 2006’s ‘A Lesson In Crime’) then you’ll be relieved to know ‘Elephant Shell’ doesn’t even double that running time, flitting through these short but fully-formed tracks at a velocity that can be hard to keep up with. Only one tune here, ‘Your English Is Good’, surmounts the three-minute mark and it’s still over before your Guinness has settled. But what these four Canadians, who formed in a basement for a bit of a laugh, have mastered is fitting shit-hot tunes into bite-sized chunks, and in the process they’ve carved a niche sound that makes up for its haste with urgency and excitement.7/10 in stores now

Mike Relm - Spectacles
Let the face furniture of San Fran disco-er Mike Relm fool you. Forget that he’s named his second album after his eyewear.
Vivian Girls - Vivian Girls
One of Vivian Girls is called Kickball Katy. She plays bass even more nonchalantly than your average Valium-scoffing four-stringer.
Plastic Passion - Contrived Imagery
They're saying that punk's dead, y'know? Spiritually, if not physically.
Wetdog - Enterprise Reversal
Had ‘Enterprise Reversal’ been a five track EP of a release its toneless blahs from lead shouter Rivka Gillieron would have still been a struggle to sit through.
