Velocifero
words by Marcus Foley

Rest assured Ladytron fans – ‘Velocifero’ is not a huge departure from their previous output. Instead, the Scouse darkwavers have consolidated their steady progression, and can rightly claim their place as one of the finest alt-tronica bands around. What emerges throughout this record is a sense of sharper focus, with songs that are both instantaneous and brooding. Yet it’s when they ‘go pop’ (‘Tomorrow’ et al), that they really shine, with a rumbling bass that retains the menacing appeal that is so distinctly their own.

Let the face furniture of San Fran disco-er Mike Relm fool you. Forget that he’s named his second album after his eyewear.

Vivian Girls - Vivian Girls

One of Vivian Girls is called Kickball Katy. She plays bass even more nonchalantly than your average Valium-scoffing four-stringer.

They're saying that punk's dead, y'know? Spiritually, if not physically.

Wetdog - Enterprise Reversal

Had ‘Enterprise Reversal’ been a five track EP of a release its toneless blahs from lead shouter Rivka Gillieron would have still been a struggle to sit through.
