Cage The Elephant
words by Dean Driscoll
Opening your debut album with the lead single that declares you don’t give a shit what critics say is presumably meant as an act of defiant bravado, but song titles such as ‘Judas’ and ‘Back-Stabbing Betty’, indicate a deeply insecure band who just want to be loved. Dodgy lyrics aside, there’s no doubting the musical talent on display here, with enough ambition and Stonesy blues to win over the more discerning indie rock fan, and enough rock’n’roll swagger to appeal to whoever it is that still buys Jet and Oasis records these days.

Mike Relm - Spectacles
Let the face furniture of San Fran disco-er Mike Relm fool you. Forget that he’s named his second album after his eyewear.
Vivian Girls - Vivian Girls
One of Vivian Girls is called Kickball Katy. She plays bass even more nonchalantly than your average Valium-scoffing four-stringer.
Plastic Passion - Contrived Imagery
They're saying that punk's dead, y'know? Spiritually, if not physically.
Wetdog - Enterprise Reversal
Had ‘Enterprise Reversal’ been a five track EP of a release its toneless blahs from lead shouter Rivka Gillieron would have still been a struggle to sit through.
