Paradise
words by J P Nicholas
Do you feel hassled/pissed off/upset after a shit day? Getting in and listening to something good can sort you right out (let's face it, who wants to listen to you moan?) and this is what ‘Paradise’ is made for.
The title is ironic: songs cover war, poverty, crack, and a big heavy bag of other bugbears. But, despite this, overwhelming positivity creeps in somewhere between the funky bass lines, Ian Brown-style vocals and Rob B's handiwork. The effect is bittersweet… like someone saying "chin-up" rather than "smile, it might never happen!" Distinctively street, this is classic Stereo MCs.

Mike Relm - Spectacles
Let the face furniture of San Fran disco-er Mike Relm fool you. Forget that he’s named his second album after his eyewear.
Vivian Girls - Vivian Girls
One of Vivian Girls is called Kickball Katy. She plays bass even more nonchalantly than your average Valium-scoffing four-stringer.
Plastic Passion - Contrived Imagery
They're saying that punk's dead, y'know? Spiritually, if not physically.
Wetdog - Enterprise Reversal
Had ‘Enterprise Reversal’ been a five track EP of a release its toneless blahs from lead shouter Rivka Gillieron would have still been a struggle to sit through.
