< Lupe Fiasco at Koko, Camden
words by Mandy Drake

His latest concept album will have us believe that ‘cool’ is more than a case of relativity; it’s irrelevant. But sporting monochrome anti-gangster togs and mirrored shades this evening, Lupe Fiasco looks like he coined the phrase. He’s the prodigy that Kanye West will one day wish he never groomed, the opening ‘Real’ suggesting that Fiasco is soon to surpass his mentor as the most charismatic performer in hip hop. And then he fucks it up. Rapping his skit (and only his skit) from West’s ‘Touch The Sky’ lacked confidence to say the least but it’s the likes of an a cappella ‘Coolest’ that make tonight an unavoidable let down.
