Listening Post

Lighten up guys, there’s some fun to be had on Flamingods’ new track ‘Marigold’

Take three minutes out from Brexit

It may have escaped your notice but these are serious times we’re living in. Brexit, apparently, is getting quite messy. But then you have the Bros documentary and Danny Dyer’s new ‘historical’ TV programme to remind us that lightness isn’t just relief but essential.

Enter: Flamingods, London via Bahrain purveyors of psych-disco-fun-rock who somehow always evangelise the bright side no matter how bleak the climate. They’ve been doing it for a while, check out 2016’s ‘Majesty’ album and the ‘Kewali’ EP if you don’t know them already.

‘Marigold’, their new single, and first new music in a while, does exactly that. It arrives as they announce a new album, ‘Levitation’, coming via Moshi Moshi on 3 May, plus, their biggest headline show to date at London’s Village Underground on 1 May.

So here it is, the sun-drenched ‘Marigold’. And if that’s not zeitgeist-y enough for you, you know where Idles and Sleaford Mods are.

They’re also on tour at the following places:

Bristol, Marble Factory – 31 January (Supporting Omar Souleyman)
Marrakech, Beat Hotel – 31 March
Reading, Are You Listening? – 27 April
London, Village Underground – 1 May
Bristol, Exchange – 8 May
Sheffield, Picture House Social – 15 May
Glasgow, Broadcast – 16 May
Manchester, YES – 17 May
