A completely free all-dayer in London called Uplands is launching this month

A new community focused event is coming to Waltham Forest this month, featuring live music, DJs, and panels and workshops to support young people from marginalised backgrounds pursue careers in the music industry

Here’s a new one-day festival from London promoters LNZRT and Route (the website and project that supports young people from marginalised backgrounds pursue careers in the music industry) that’s a bit different.

For a start, Uplands is a completely free event, happening 19 August 2023 across the studios, breweries and spaces of Uplands Business Park in Black Horse Road, North London. It’s the first of a series of music-led events in partnership with Waltham Forest Council, as part of the Young Creators Programme, designed to support cultural activity and provide employment and training for 16-30s in the borough. Local recruitment has already begun for production and content roles paid at the London Living Wage.

So far, the music line up features: Denzel Himself (pictured above), Tony Njoku, Peng Femme Jam, Anti-Net, Micromoon, Joe Jas, Faye Meana, Nation Unrest, Isaiah Hull and Retropxssy.

And as well as the Uplands record fair, there’ll be workshops and panels too, programmed by Route, discussing issues surround class barriers and how to start a career in the music industry.
