It's our final issue of 2023, with an exclusive Lankum flexi discs for subscribers while stocks last
We’ve never featured a band in the mag earlier in the year and then again on the cover in December, but there’s a lot more to say about Lankum than we were able to last time. This breakout year of theirs, following the success of new trad folk album False Lankum, has been 20 years in the making, so Fergal Kinney went to meet the band in Dublin specifically to dive into the years that led the band to 2023. And Lankum have provided us with a track from 2014 for this month’s subscriber-exclusive, limited edition flexi disc. (Sign up to get yours while stocks last.)
As it’s our final issue of 2023, it’ll feature our Albums Of The Year coverage too, including our top 40 LPs, with interviews from some of the artists who made some of them – including JPEGMAFIA, Joanna Sternberg and Divide & Dissolve.
But it’s not all looking backwards. In fact, most of issue 162 (in stores and with our subscribers from 25 November) is about what’s coming in January and beyond. So we have interview features with Future Islands, Sleater-Kinney, Beirut and John Francis Flynn.
Oskar Jeff ate oysters with grime legend D Double E, we asked Hannah Diamond what her favourite song is really, and met Irish punk band Sprints, Australia-Korean hip hop collective 1300, sound artist and gardener Rosie Carr and Korean ambient duo Salamanda.
