Adia Victoria’s latest video is her powerful take on being a black woman in the American south

The Nashville artist has made a striking video for her track 'Horrible Weather'

Right now, Nashville is one of America’s fastest growing cities. Stand on the hill overlooking the city’s famous downtown and the skyline is changing; new high rise developments are flying up to meet the demand of the people moving in.

The north of the city is a traditionally black part of town – a predominantly white, Christian city – but residents are being priced out as the urban sprawl spreads out.

Adia Victoria, a local, has made a striking new video about this. It features her family, including her grandmother in the family neighbourhood.

The track, ‘Horrible Weather’, appeared on Adia’s debut album, ‘Beyond The Bloodhounds’, released earlier this year. Musically, it’s one of the highlights, conjuring the atmosphere of Portishead ‘Dummy’-era.

It features animation from Ruff Mercy, who’s worked with Danny Brown and Run The Jewels in the past.
